(Labeling)

(Translating)

STEP 01

(Lock)

STEP 02

转译 (Translate)

STEP 03

(Expose)

STEP 04

(Refine)

Result:

Result: 500

CHECKLIST

Mental Model 002

The Jargon
Performer

"You don't really understand, you just know."

READ TIME: 8 MIN • SOURCE: YUE JIAN • 2025-11-01

THE DIAGNOSIS

Sun's "Public Execution"

Sun Zhuoxi, 29, a brilliant PhD analyst, filled his slides with "Monte Carlo Simulations" and "Distributed Ledgers." He believed complexity equals professionalism.

Until he met Director Wang (55), a factory owner. Wang interrupted Sun's speech on "Asymmetric Encryption": "Speak human! Why should I spend 5 million on this?" Sun froze. Without his jargon, he was mute.

Core Issue

Knowledge Tattoos: You disguise professionalism with complexity. You don't understand; you understand backwards.

MINDSET OS

Labeling (Trap)

Intellectual Vanity
Labels = Zero Cost, High Ego
"I know the word" ≠ "I get it"

Translating (Growth)

Cognitive Muscle
Analogy = High Cost, True Skill
Empathy is the highest level

"Simplicity is not shallowness; it is the essence after deep understanding. Simplification is compassion."

THE FEYNMAN TECHNIQUE

Why Teaching is Learning

When forced to teach a "novice," jargon fails, forcing you to reveal your true understanding.

THE 4-STEP FURNACE

STEP 01

Lock

Select one micro-concept (e.g., MECE). Greed is fake learning.

STEP 02

Translate

Write an email to a 10-year-old. Red Line: No Jargon. Using jargon means you are guilty.

STEP 03

Expose

Where you stutter is where your logic breaks. Circle it; this is the entry point for growth.

STEP 04

Refine

Go back to the source. Find the analogy that fixes the gap. The best analogies come from the worst blocks.

ACTION GUIDE

From "Wall" to "Bridge"

BEFORE: The Wall of Jargon

"The decentralized nature of the distributed ledger ensures data immutability..."

Result: Client confused. Project failed.

AFTER: The Bridge of Common Sense

"It's a ledger everyone in the village keeps. If John sells a pig to Paul, everyone writes it down. The bank trusts this village book."

Result: 5 Million Deal. Trust established.

TOOLKIT

CHECKLIST

The "Novice Translator"

If you can't simplify it, you are faking it. Use this checklist:

Step Action Self-Question Example (Compound Interest)
1. Concept Lock Core Concept "What exactly am I trying to understand?" Compound Interest
2. Wall List Jargon "What words am I using to scare people?" Principal, Exponential, Non-linear
3. Analogy Use Life Scenario "Without jargon, what does this look like?" Rolling a Snowball
4. Gap Find Logic Holes "What's the first 'dumb' question?" Why does it get faster? (Forgot 'interest on interest')
5. Refine Close the Loop "How to plug this hole?" New snow sticks to old snow, making it grab even more next time.
